Dr. Familua specializes in Advanced Laparoscopic General & Robotic Surgery. He has extensive training in General Surgery. Dr. Familua obtained his medical degree from College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. His postgraduate General Surgery trainings at the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Ireland and Great Britain. He relocated to the United States and completed another surgical training at the Columbia University at Harlem Hospital, NY. Dr. Familua then went on to complete a rigorous Advanced Laparoendoscopic and Robotic Surgery fellowship at the prestigious Texas Endosurgery Institute San Antonio under the tutelage of world renown pioneer of Laparoscopic Surgery, Morris Franklin Jr. His clinical interests are Robotic Surgery, Single Incision Gallbladder surgery, Minimally Invasive Hernia and antireflux Surgery, Minimally invasive Colon Surgery for diverticulitis and cancer, Gastric cancer surgery and Breast Surgery. Endocrine surgeries including Thyroidectomies, Adrenalectomies, Parathyroidectomies. Dr. Familua is Board-certified in General surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, International College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Royal college of Surgeons in Ireland and Great Britain. He is also the author of several medical journal articles on surgical techniques and has given many presentations and lectures on robot-assisted surgery. Dr. Familua prides himself in delivering thoughtful, caring and compassionate care with the utility of state of the art technology.
